Palestinagrupperna i Sverige (PGS) har med stor oro följt utvecklingen i och omkring flyktinglägret Nahr El Barred i Libanon. PGS ordförande Per Gahrton har skickat ett brev till Libanons ambassad i Sverige med uppmaningen att skona civila palestiniers liv och bistå med hjälp till alla dem som redan drabbats svårt. Alla stora palestinska organisationer har tagit avstånd från Fatah al Islam och palestinierna deltar inte i några strider. Ändå har de palestinska civila flyktingarna drabbats mycket hårt av striderna mellan Libanesiska armén och den militanta gruppen.
PGS har sedan 1993 gett stöd till verksamheter i flyktinglägren Nahr el Barred och Beddawi som går ut på att förbättra situationen för funktionshindrade i lägren. PGS ger även stöd till en rehabiliteringsklinik i nära samarbete med Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS). På kliniken kan alla palestinier och en del fattiga libaneser få hjälp då de är i behov av sjukgymnastik och rehabilitering, ortopediska och andra tekniska hjälpmedel.
Rapporter från PGS samarbetspartners vittnar om en mycket svår situation för de civila i Nahr el Barred och nu när tusentals har flytt till det intilliggande lägret Beddawi är situationen där mycket pressad och nästan kaosartad när man försöker ta hand om skadade och chockade flyktingar.

The Palestine Solidarity Association in Sweden is deeply concerned about the recent escalation of violence in the northern Lebanon.
The civilians in the Nahr El Barred Camp are not taking part in the fighting’s but are still those who have to bear the consequences of the situation. Both the PLO and the Palestinian Authority in the occupied territories has denied any connection with Fatah El Islam and has also condemned their actions. They are concerned that once again the Palestinian civil population living in refugee camps are caught in the middle of heavy fighting and are paying with their lives.
As nearly 100 people now are killed, many more wounded, thousands have fled their homes and thousands still remain in the camp, we call on the Lebanese government to do it’s outmost to save and protect the lives of the civilian population in Nahr El Barred Camp and also to assist the Palestinians affected by the fighting’s with medical care, housing and to be able to resettled as soon as possible.
