In a weekend loaded with athletic action including the start of the NBA and NHL playoffs, full decks of Major League Baseball games and anticipation for the 129th Boston Marathon, it was professional wrestling that had one of the most memorable sneaker moments.
At WWE WrestleMania 41, which took place Saturday and Sunday nights from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, designer-rapper Travis Scott was a key participant in the event’s final moments, and he did so in a pair of his unreleased Jordan signature sneakers.
Near the end of the main event match-up between champion Cody Rhodes and challenger John Cena, the Cactus Jack artist sauntered to the ring as his hit song “FE!N” played. On foot, Travis wore his Jordan CJ1 T-Rexx sneaker in an upcoming “Bright Cactus” colorway.
The soon-to-be-released Jordan CJ1 T-Rexx has a full colorway of “Muslin/Black/Bright Cactus,” which translates to a predominantly off-white Muslin leather upper that is broken up with Bright Cactus green canvas portions on the toe, tongue and side panels. Black adds further contrast, including on the shoe’s reversed Swoosh logo, a signature detail of the artist’s Cactus Jack sneakers.
Formerly known as the Jumpman Jack, the CJ1 T-Rexx is Travis Scott’s first signature model with the brand after years of collaborations on preexisting Air Jordans. The mid-top silhouette features a mid-foot support strap and Travis Scott branding throughout, including a “Jack” graphic on the sole which fades away with wear. Nike’s official product description describes it as a shoe that can handle the “raging rigors of Travis’ nonstop lifestyle as an elite performance athlete—delivering traction, comfort and confidence when embracing day-to-day extremes.”
Wrestling may not be the first sport that comes to mind when fans think of coveted sneakers, but many of its athletes have taken a liking to customized and limited-edition shoes in recent years.
The Jordan CJ1 T-Rexx “Bright Cactus” is set to be released on April 30 for a retail price of $200. Fans can expect availability from travisscott.com, SNKRS and select Jordan Brand retailers. In addition to adult sizes, which have a SKU of FZ8117-102, the sneaker will also be released in preschool (FJ2851-102, $90) and toddler (FJ2852-102, $75) sizing.
