One of the most iconic designs in Nike’s vast archive of retro sneakers will soon make its return featuring a build that’s one of the most accurate reissues of the shoes yet.

For the first time since 2020, the Nike Air Max 95 “Neon” will be rereleased this year in celebration of the model’s 30th anniversary. More than just a standard reissue, Nike went to new lengths to ensure this version of the Air Max 95 was as close to the original 1995 version as possible.

Specifically, it’s the retro running sneaker’s visible Air cushioning that has received an intentional update this time around. Since the late 2000s, rereleases of Air Max 95s (and other retro Air Max models) have come equipped with Air units which were noticeably shrunken in size compared to older versions.

Not only did the smaller Air bubbles affect the aesthetic of the shoes, but also changed the way the cushioning felt underfoot. And with each Air Max 95 reissue (new variations of the sneaker’s original colorways are typically released every five years), the bubbles seemed to get smaller and smaller.

But this year, Nike is giving purists what they’ve been clamoring for with a return to form for the mid-‘90s classic. While the ’25 iteration may not be an exact one-to-one match with the original ’95, recently surfaced comparison photos between the shoe’s 2018 retro and the latest version show just how much the design has been improved upon.

In addition to the original “Neon” colorway pictured here, the revamped “Big Bubble” Air Max 95 is also expected to be released in its fan-favorite “Pink Foam” style this year.

The new images come after the Air Max 95 “Neon” received a shock drop Saturday at Tokyo vintage store Blue Room. While that appears to be the only launch the sneakers have received thus far, new details have surfaced regarding the shoe’s stateside availability.

Despite the fanfare the pair has already generated, it doesn’t sound like the shoes will be getting a wider release in time for Air Max Day on March 26. Instead, according to Sneaker Files, the “Neon” Nike Air Max 95 will receive a limited launch beginning on April 4 with availability in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and major cities on the Interstate 95 corridor.

A wider release will then reportedly take place on April 18 from SNKRS, Nike NBHD retailers, JD Sports and select City Specialty stores. U.S. retail pricing is expected to be $185 and the “Black/Neon Yellow/Cool Gray” colorway has a SKU of HM4740-001.
