A fan-favorite yet under-the-radar Nike Foamposite sneaker is returning to retail later this year, and a first look at the upcoming style recently surfaced online.
Nike’s “Cough Drop” Air Foamposite One was originally released in 2007, but the “Black/Black/Varsity Red” colorway didn’t receive its nickname until a few years later. Its first rerelease came in 2010 with a key difference: the shoe’s rubber outsole had a translucent look compared to the solid red of the original. The lozenge-like clear finish on the ’10 version resulted in the “Cough Drop” nickname, but it looks like Nike is changing things up once again for the 2025 reissue.
A first look at the ’25 Nike Air Foamposite One “Cough Drop” reveals that the shoe’s red outsole has now changed back to the solid appearance of the original. It’s a small enough change that it’s unlikely to dissuade many fans of the sneaker, especially given the pair’s 15-year absence from retail shelves.
Originally released in 1997, the Nike Air Foamposite One was designed by Eric Avar and was made famous as a signature sneaker for Penny Hardaway. It quickly transcended sport, becoming a street style staple throughout the 2000s before catching on as a full-blown mainstream hit in the 2010s.
And while Foamposite mania may have cooled off since, the ahead-of-its-time Nike sneaker is never fully out of style. It’s recently experienced a resurgence which included the first-ever rerelease of the “Galaxy” colorway.
With a SKU of IB2219-001, the Nike Air Foamposite One “Cough Drop” is expected to be released June 7 for a retail price of $240. Availability is expected from Nike’s SNKRS app and select Nike Sportswear stockists.
It’s possible the release date could change between now and then, so readers are encouraged to check back for the latest updates
