Nike’s Futuristic Flightposite Sneaker Will Be Rereleased in One of Its Rarest Styles Ever

An eye-catching Nike Flightposite colorway which was once released in extremely limited quantities is reportedly returning before the end of the year.

According to Sole Retriever, a Nike Air Flightposite tied to NBA Hall of Famer and current Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd will be rereleased this holiday season. The shimmering, color-shifting style was originally released in July 2008 as a store exclusive to Foot Locker’s NYC House of Hoops location. Like many of the House of Hoops-exclusive releases from the 2000s era, it’s said that under 100 pairs of the Jason Kidd-themed Air Flightposite were produced.

Although the ’08 pair did not feature any overt Kidd-related branding, it was decked out in the team colors of the Mavericks. On its Foamposite shell upper, the Air Flightposite’s signature iridescent finish shifted from purple to green, while the shoe’s outsole tooling, carbon fiber shank and neoprene shroud were colored in a dark Midnight Navy.

Surprisingly, the ’08 Air Flightposite release was not actually worn on court by Kidd himself. Instead, the tenured point guard wore a different Air Flightposite while he played for the Phoenix Suns in 2000. That pair featured a more dominantly purple look with personalized orange accents featuring Kidd’s jersey number and name.

Unlike the Mavericks-colored pair, the PE colorway worn by Kidd was never released to the public — although it did closely resemble the sneaker’s original “Metallic Purple” colorway, which was later renamed “Eggplant.”

While pairs of Kidd’s late-2000s Air Flightposites are near-impossible to come by these days — even tracking down high quality photos on the internet is challenging — it sounds like fans of the futuristic sneaker will have another chance at  the rare pair.

The “Multi-Color/Multi-Color/Midnight Navy” colorway is expected to be released during holiday 2025 for a retail price of $240 with a SKU of HJ4481-900. This story will be updated with any new developments.
