Jordan Brand is reinvigorating its golf footwear business with the Jordan Air Rev shoe, a new style featuring adaptable technology.
The story of the Jordan Air Rev, which is set to release May 14, began more than five years ago, when NBA icon — and known golf fan — Michael Jordan requested an innovative golf shoe. Jordan Brand said he offered his own insights for this shoe.
In a statement, Jordan said of the new creation: “The future of golf isn’t tied to its past. For the next generation, it’s bolder and more modern. Jordan Brand Golf blends performance, innovation and iconic style, building a future where players, not the past, define what’s next.”
The Air Rev showcases Flight Lock technology, which features a movable Air Zoom unit and Leno weave strap to hold the golfer’s foot in place, allowing for optimized stability and swing speed. This marks the first time for Nike Inc. that the Air Zoom unit is utilized as a removable/customizable unit to help with forefoot cushioning and responsive stability.
The Air Zoom unit is meant to be put inside a pouch in the sidewall at the back of the foot, while the Formula23 foam is meant for the front of the foot. The adaptable system is accommodating of left- and right-handed golfers since they can switch out the Air Zoom Unit and Formula23 foam as needed. The Leno weave strap on top of the foot assists with stabilization and balance as it applies pressure according to how energy flows from the foot.
The shoe also features an integrated traction pattern influenced by advanced pressure mapping, another element aiming to enhance stability. Additionally, a waterproof synthetic upper is intended to withstand harsh conditions.
“With Flight Lock, your trail foot works like a gas pedal and your lead foot works like a brake,” Nike Inc. men’s sport footwear director Matt Plumb said in a statement. “The containment system offers a proprioceptive feeling — a reminder to the athlete: ‘When I swing back, I want to push off the Air Zoom unit on my trail foot.'”
Jordan Brand Golf is also releasing a summer 2025 apparel collection featuring a range of products, including a short-sleeved polo and a hoodie.
