News of an Air Jordan 5 Retro “Fire Red” reissue first leaked in October and now, a detailed look at the upcoming rerelease has surfaced.

The upcoming 2025 version of the sneaker marks the first time since 2013 the colorway has been released. One of two original Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” colorways, this pair is differentiated by its black nylon tongue in place of the sneaker’s signature reflective silver as well as reversed color blocking on the fighter jet-inspired midsole design. While the alternate “Fire Red” style features a mostly black midsole with red shark teeth, this black tongue pair uses more of the bright red shade.

Fans have been waiting quite some time for the return of this specific Air Jordan 5. Aside from its ’13 reissue, the style has only been rereleased once in 2006 aside from its original 1990 launch. Meanwhile, the alternate “Fire Red” reflective tongue look has received retro releases numerous times; first in 2000, again in 2008 in a “Countdown Pack,” in 2013 as a standalone SKU and most recently, in 2020.

One of four original Air Jordan 5 colorways, the black tongue “Fire Red” look was worn frequently on court by Michael Jordan during the sneaker’s original run in 1990. Like his personal pair, the upcoming Air Jordan 5 Retro “Fire Red” will feature his jersey number, 23, embroidered near the heel.

’25 has been a particularly busy year for the Air Jordan 5. For the model’s 35th anniversary, Jordan Brand has released the “Black Metallic Reimagined” and the sneaker’s original “Grape” colorway is set to arrive at retailers in June.
