Adidas is revamping its Supernova franchise for everyday running with a new midsole foam based off of its Lightstrike technology.

Dreamstrike+ is a proprietary foam with a 20 percent bio-based foundation and a focus on both comfort and cushioning. Its first application will form the entirety of the midsole for the Supernova Rise, which is set for a December release. Two additional sneakers, the Supernova Solution and Supernova Stride, will then make use of Dreamstrike+ beginning in February. The former will also feature a full-length Dreamstrike+ midsole, while the latter will limit it to the forefoot region alongside an EVA compound for the rest of the midsole.

Although it’ll go on sale in sizing for both men and women, the Supernova Rise was made with a focus on female runners. Adidas says its survey of 1,300 female runners found that comfort is one of everyday runners’ most important criteria in a shoe. With this in mind, the Adidas Product team took inspiration from the Lightstrike Pro foam used in the Adizero marathon franchise routinely worn by major marathon winners, including the current women’s record holder.

“We are very excited to introduce a totally new chapter of the Supernova franchise – our everyday running shoes,” JT Newcomb, category director for Adidas Running Footwear, said in a press release. “The driving motivation behind revamping the Supernova was to enable more people to run, more of the time. When we listened to what was important to the everyday running community it was comfort that stood out and we’ve focused our efforts on creating a range o f shoes that deliver that benefit in a way we are sure all runners will love.”

For both the Supernova Rise and Supernova Solution, the Dreamstrike+ midsole is paired with a Support Rod system embedded in the outsole for support, transition, and stability. On the Supernova Rise, the two middle rods are splintered together in a different configuration for additional support.

A redesigned mesh upper also features a combination of foam and a soft textile in the heel for additional comfort.

The Adidas Supernova Rise will release Dec. 1 through running-focused retailers such as Running Warehouse, Marathon sports, and Road Runner Sports. Both the men’s and women’s debut colorways take inspiration from bioluminescence with a black and neon green colorway, and the women’s adds purple into the mix. Pricing is set at $140.

Additional colorways will follow in February on Adidas’ website, and the Supernova Solution and Supernova Stride will launch Feb. 22.
