History was made in both the women’s and men’s races at the 2025 Boston Marathon, as Sharon Lokedi set a new course record for women and John Korir succeeded his brother Wesley, the 2012 champion, to become the first such brother duo to win the race.

Lokedi beat two-time defending champion Hellen Obiri with a new course record of 2:17:22, more than two minutes faster than the previous mark. The Kenyan runner was wearing the Under Armour Velociti Elite 3, the same shoes in which she raced for her ninth place finish at the 2024 New York City Marathon.

She previously won the 2022 New York City Marathon and finished third the following year. In 2024, Lokedi came in second to Obiri at the Boston Marathon.

Korir, also from Kenya, finished with a time of 2:04:45 in the Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris. He won the Chicago Marathon for his first podium position at a world major.

Under Armour won’t release the Velociti Elite 3 until 2026, but the brand has revealed that it does without the Flow technology of its preceding model to help reduce the weight from 8.5 ounces to 7.7 ounces. A new Hovr+ compound uses an HTPU bead foam, and a 39mm heel drops to 37mm at the forefoot.

The Metaspeed Sky Paris, which is out now on Asics’ website and at select third-party retailers for $250, features a wider carbon fiber plate than its predecessor, which works in conjunction with softer-than-ever FF Turbo Plus foam in the midsole. At 6.4 ounces for a men’s size 9, the Metaspeed Sky Paris is 0.8 ounces lighter than the previous version. The heel comes in at 39.5mm, 5mm higher than its forefoot.
