Conscious Step is expanding its social reach with a new sock collaboration benefiting Water.org.
The company, founded in 2013, gives back to a variety of social causes for every pair of its sustainably sourced socks sold. The collaboration with Matt Damon-founded nonprofit Water.org gives 18 months of clean water to one person for each pair sold.
In addition to the sock style for Water.org, Conscious Step revealed new styles for its existing partnerships. The brand works with UN AIDS to provide a week of HIV therapy for expectant mothers for every pair of socks sold. Sock styles that benefit Room to Read provide two new textbooks to kids in need, styles benefiting Action Against Hunger provide six meals for a malnourished child and Trees for the Future socks fund the planting of 20 trees.
Conscious Step was founded in Australia by friends Hassan Ahmad, Prashant Mehta and Adam Long, who have backgrounds in medicine, microfinance and marketing.
“We know people want to give back, and we know they do it when it can be convenient and part of their life,” Prashant Mehta told Footwear News. “Showing people the tangible result is something they can understand. It’s not just a percentage but actual change.”
