Tim Walz’s Family Celebrates His Vice Presidential Nomination at the DNC — See the Minnesota’s First Family’s Style
Minnesota governor Tim Walz accepted the Democratic Party’s vice presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 21 in Chicago. It was a momentous occasion shared on the national stage — and with his family by his side.
Taking up the call to action to run alongside Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race, Walz made a passionate speech on the second-to-last day of the convention. His family, including wife Gwen and children Hope and Gus, joined him on stage in celebration of the occasion, all wearing shades of blue befitting of the Democratic party.
The first lady of Minnesota paired her elegant navy dress with matching suede pumps. The shoes aligned with the quintessential pump silhouette, constructed with a sole that is flat in front and arches upward toward the middle to support a narrow heel in the back. The classic pump is enclosed around the sides and back, with a modest vamp leaving the majority of the top of the foot uncovered.

Offered in materials like suede, leather and patent leather, pumps are a go-to footwear option for women involved in politics —Harris has a variety of pairs in her closet. Marion Parke, a brand favored by first lady Jill Biden, offers suede pumps like Walz’s in a range of colors.
Walz’s eldest child, Hope, slipped into a pair of brown mules to complement a sheer periwinkle floral dress. The shoes featured a peep-toe design in which the majority of the top of the foot was covered by a wide strap. The mules featured a platform which sloped upward slightly in front, creating a curved outline for the sole. A sizable block heel likely contributed to a sense of balance and security. A reliable warm weather style, FKA Twigs has worn a similar pair of platform mules from Chanel, though hers were patent leather. Mules can be reinvented in a variety of silhouettes, from an Adidas Stan Smith option to a dainty sandal from Jimmy Choo worn by Meghan Markle.
