Megan Thee Stallion Pays Tribute to Josephine Baker at the 2025 Met Gala in Bedazzled Stuart Weitzman Stilettos
Megan Thee Stallion channeled the radiance, elegance and utterly show-stopping energy of Josephine Baker in a shimmering silver sequin-encrusted gown and stilettos to mark her 2025 Met Gala on Monday.
The “Body” rapper attended “fashion’s biggest night” with designer Michael Kors, who made her custom halter gown. She amped up the opulence with a fluffy white fur coat with a long-train and a red, sculptural three-tiered ponytail modeled after one Baker wore at a performance in Cuba in 1951.
She finished the look with long sparkly silver nails and rhinestone-encrusted Stuart Weitzman Nudist Shine 100 stilettos.

Her red carpet-ready shoes were adorned with over 2,100 Swarovski crystals, including on the 100 mm (3.9-inch) heel, slim ankle and toe straps. They were made in Spain with silver satin and feature a classic round open toe. The Stuart Weitzman Nudist Shine 100 stilettos retail for $795 and also come in Barbiecore hot pink.
The event marks the Houston rapper’s first Met Gala in three years, having skipped the last few. For 2022’s “Gilded Glamour and White Tie” theme, she wore a custom beaded gold brocade cut-out gown—featuring her favored sultry high slit—from Jeremy Scott, with coordinating gold stilettos, of course.
Baker’s presence was felt on the 2025 Met Gala red carpet, whose theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” honored Black fashion and dandies. From tailored tuxedos and suits with top hats to extravagant gowns and shimmering Bob Mackie-style dresses, she is the patron saint of female Black dandyism. The slick forehead curl that many celebrities wore on the carpet, including Quinta Brunson, Bad Bunny, Dua Lipa and Ayo Edebiri was also inspired by Baker, nicknamed the “Black Venus.”
Every year, the Met Gala turns New York’s Met Museum into one of the buzziest, star-studded fashion events of the season to celebrate the Museum’s Costume Institute’s newest exhibit and to raise money for its operating budget. Bad Bunny, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky—a co-chair this year—Diana Ross, Tracee Ellis Ross, Taraji P. Henson, FKA twigs and many other celebs also walked the Met Gala 2025 carpet in stunning looks.
This year’s Met Gala celebrated Black fashion via the Met’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibit exploring dandyism over 300 years. The new Costume Institute exhibition showcases historical fashion alongside looks from over forty contemporary Black and POC designers, including Grace Wales Bonner, Telfar, Ozwald Boateng, Dapper Dan, Jeffrey Banks, Luar, Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing, Fear of God, Off-White’s Ib Kamara and Willy Chavarria. It is the Institute’s first show to focus on designers of color and the first in two decades to center men’s fashion. The lead sponsor behind the show and gala is Louis Vuitton, where the late Virgil Abloh served as creative director of men’s collections from 2018 until his untimely death in November 2021, after which he was succeeded by Pharrell Williams.
Met Gala guests got a first look at “Superfine,” which opens to the public on Saturday and runs through Oct. 26.
