Awkwafina Pumps Up Height in Platform Mary Jane Heels for ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

To chat about her new film, Awkwafina decided she needed a little extra height. The Emmy nominated performer headed to the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live in a breezy, oversized blue and white button down shirt and skirt set. To anchor the look, she slipped into a pair of chunky platform Mary Jane shoes.
Awkwafina stars in the recently released “Jackpot!” opposite John Cena. To promote the project, she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel with guest host Jeff Goldblum. While on the program, she was the first guest and also chatted about “Crazy Rich Asians,” which she appeared in.
For the appearance, the star was styled by Erica Cloud. Cloud chose footwear that is one of Awkwafina’s favored styles. The shoe in particular was from Charles & Keith. The performer is often spotted in platform styles which give her additional height — sometimes these are of he peep-toe variety like satin Sam Edelman shoes she wore to the Met Gala and Vanity Fair Oscars after party this year. Recently she’s also been wearing a variety of Mary Janes, featuring thick heels and a strap across the top of the foot. The Charles &* Keith shoes specifically have also served her for other stops on her current press tour. She also wore them at KCON Los Angeles, an annual convention centered on Korean talent.
Mary Janes are known as a largely sensible shoe while still being playful. Initially having become popular in the 1920s, they’ve gone in and out of fashion over the decades and are typified by their strap which often includes a buckle as well as their hard soles. Recently other celebrities have been donning the style as well like Jenna Ortega and Lupita Nyong’o.
