Donald Trump, sneakerhead? In what was perhaps the most unexpected news of the week, the former president and 2024 Republican presidential candidate hit Sneaker Con in Philadelphia on Saturday to introduce a new line of signature sneakers. The appearance came a day after Trump, who is facing a number of major legal battles as he moves closer to the nomination, was ordered to pay $355 million in a New York civil fraud case.

Trump announced the move as he posed with a pair of gold high-tops with a T engraved on the side and an American flag on the back of the upper. The $399 “Never Surrender” kicks, available for pre-order, were listed as sold out on a website called Gettrumpsneakers.com as of Saturday night. According to the site, only 1,000 pairs were available and “at least 10” were autographed by Trump. Meanwhile, two other styles, the “T-Red Wave” in red, and “Potus 45” in white were still available for pre-order.

“I’ve wanted to do this for a long time,” Trump told the Sneaker Con crowd, according to an NBC News report. “I have some incredible people that work with me on things and they came up with this … and I think it’s gonna be a big success.”

While it is not clear where Trump’s new sneakers will be produced, the former president angered many footwear players back in 2019 when he imposed new footwear tariffs on China-made shoes.

Earlier, President Joe Biden’s campaign issued a statement about Trump’s appearance at Sneaker Con.

“Donald Trump showing up to hawk bootleg Off-Whites is the closest he’ll get to any Air Force Ones ever again for the rest of his life,” said Biden-Harris 2024 Communications Director Michael Tyler, in a statement posted to X.
