Katie Holmes and a roster of boldface names helped celebrate the launch of Nordstrom‘s NYC flagship store on Tuesday night.
Of course, a grand opening for a 320,000-square-foot, seven-level women’s store merits a grand guest list, and a long list of celebrities showing off chic looks did not disappoint.
Holmes proved a classic never goes out of style. The 40-year-old looked sleek in a little black minidress by Saint Laurent with Giuseppe Zanotti’s “Carolyne” black suede pumps and subtly embellished stockings. Set on 4-inch stiletto heels, the shoes retail for $675 online.
Speaking to FN, Holmes, who hails from Toledo, Ohio, described the opening as an exciting moment that resonates with her roots. “I did grow up going to Nordstrom because I’m a Midwesterner. They are such nice people, the Nordstrom family. And it’s a beautiful store. It’s lovely.” The company was founded in 1901 by John Nordstrom in Seattle. With an emphasis on customer service and diverse inventory, the Midwest region became its fastest-growing market in the ’90s. Sales growth was estimated at 18–to 22% annually by 1994, according to WWD.
Meanwhile, Winnie Harlow gave the classic LBD her personal twist, wrapping it in a python-print coat and accessorizing with oversize aviator shades and thigh-high black boots she had designed in collaboration with Steve Madden. The exclusive croc stiletto boot is part of the retailer’s Perfect Pairs collections, featuring collaborations between 14 footwear brands and their muses. The range will be sold only at the new megastore and on Nordstrom.com.
Sam Edelman and his wife Libby, co-founders of Sam Edelman footwear, joined the festivities with their son Jesse and model Alicia Herbeth, who stars in the brand’s fall campaign. Libby also took part in the Perfect Pairs collections, collaborating on booties.
Brooke Shields got in on fall’s knee-high boot trend, teaming the footwear with black tights and a gray blazer minidress.
Zoe Saldana attended the event in Fendi, opting for the brand’s Mary Janes with the Fendi monogram on each strap. She completed the outfit with an olive green coat over a long black dress.
Maggie Gyllenhaal, Olivia Wilde and British actress Naomie Harris were also among the noted guests at the soiree.
The massive department store includes an elegant Christian Louboutin pop-up, which is on display upon entering. The ground floor also features a collaborative space created by Nike and Nordstrom’s VP of creative projects, Olivia Kim.
