At 13 years old, Jenna Ortega has already racked up an extensive acting resume, including a recurring role as young Jane on the CW hit “Jane the Virgin.”
And on Feb. 14, she made her debut on the Disney Channel’s new comedy, “Stuck in the Middle,” playing Harley, a teenage whiz kid who uses her inventions to navigate life in a family of seven kids.
When it comes to her own life at home, Ortega is all about fashion. Here, she gives Footwear News a peek inside her room, where she keeps her go-to sneakers and boots close at hand. And she also talked to us about her favorite styles to wear on and off the set.
Number of pairs: About 15
Favorite brands: Converse, Adidas, Ugg, Vans
My personal style: “I’m a mix of skater and hip-hop. I love a pair of comfy, ripped jeans with a skater shirt and Converse or Vans. I usually accessorize with a trucker hat or a fancy headband. For special events, I prefer funky, edgy looks.”
Most comfortable pair: “The Ugg boots I just got for Christmas. I like to pair them with leggings or tapered jeans and a big comfy sweatshirt for cold days on set.”
Landing my latest role: “Starring in a new Disney Channel series is a dream come true — though, I have to admit, it still doesn’t seem real. I think I’m going to freak out when I finally
see our show on the air.”
On-set style: “My [‘Stuck in the Middle’] character, Harley, has great shoes — and the best part is, they’re looks I’d actually wear. Our amazing wardrobe stylist, Nancy, is always up on the current fashions. When she noticed that I’ve started wearing wedge sneakers, she incorporated them into Harley’s wardrobe. My favorite pair are black Converse wedges with some fancy bling on the side.”
Wish-list looks: “I have my eye on a pair of gold-and-black Adidas Superstar wedges I just saw my ‘Stuck in the Middle’ producer, Linda Videtti Figueiredo, wearing.”
Current tween trends: “All my friends have Adidas Superstars, Nike Air Force 1s or Converse high-tops.”
Favorite shopping haunts: “My local mall and online. My favorite stores are Forever 21, Tilly’s, Zara and H&M because they’re trendy but affordable. If I’m splurging, I love Free People and Topshop.”
Celebrity fashion idols: “Beyoncé, Angelina Jolie, Selena Gomez and Lupita Nyong’o. Each of these women has a style that is elegant, fun and, most importantly, fits the occasion.”
Fellow Disney star’s closet I’d love to raid: “Zendaya’s, hands down. If I could have half the style she has, I’d be doing alright.”
Trend inspiration: “I like to scroll through social media for ideas because it’s so accessible. I also look at my favorite shops online to see what’s new.”
Wardrobe challenges: “I’m small for my age, so I usually have to shop in the kids’ section of department stores. I find the options limited unless I want to look like an 8-year-old on the way to Easter Sunday mass.”
