This Spice Girls Outfit Tops List of the Most Inspiring British Fashion Moments
Geri Halliwell had all the right ingredients for an unforgettable style statement in 1997 at the Brit Awards.
The Spice Girls singer (known as Ginger Spice) made a sizzling appearance dressed in a Union Jack dress and towering red platform boots — and the look has been ranked as the No. 1 most-inspiring British fashion moment in a new poll conducted by online retailer Very.co.uk.
Among the other standout wardrobes, Kate Middleton’s Alexander McQueen lace wedding dress in 2011 earned the second spot on the list. The Duchess of Cambridge walked down the aisle in the gown wearing bespoke shoes designed by McQueen successor Sarah Burton.
Halliwell’s former bandmate Victoria Beckham’s debut as a model for Maria Grachvogel at London Fashion Week in 2000 came in third place, and the rise of Twiggy as a supermodel in the 1960s earned the fourth spot on the list. Liz Hurley’s Versace safety-pin dress in 1994 scored fifth.
